This is the longest series I've ever read! In 1995, Piers Anthony's books got me through a month where we had very little school due to very bad whether. I think I would have died of boredom if it hadn't been for his books, and most of the ones I read that month were Xanth. I couldn't put them down. Not every book I read that month was written by Piers Anthony, and of the ones that were not all of them were Xanth. I read seventeen books that January.
All misspellings were intentional. According to the web site, there are more to be written. I looked at this month's newsletter and he's thinking about Xanth 33. I don't know the title of 32 yet, but I'll update the list as soon as I find out.
Xanth is an entire world comprised of magical creatures, places and puns. It's a peninsula shaped like Florida, where the author lives. Each book has a character with a problem. Grundy Golem, a tiny man no bigger than a man's spread-fingered hand, and my favorite Xanth character, was originally made of wood and clay. Magic makes him real after he learns to care. His problem is he has a big mouth and no respect. In book nine, he goes to the Ivory tower to find Stanley Steamer and rescue Rapunzel in an attempt to gain respect and show people his mouth isn't all he has. Usually, no more than two books feature the same main character. (Keep in mind that this assumption is based on the fact that as of today, December 18, 2006, the last book I've read is book 23.) Main characters are brought back, but most minor characters eventually become main characters, and even mundanes like us are brought in as main characters.
